The Fehling Group, LLC (TFG) was formed in 2008 to meet specialized needs of clients faced with risk management and regulatory compliance responsibilities related to chemical release and associated exposure and health risk issues. Prior to the formation of TFG in 2008, and since that time, our associates have worked together to provide toxicology and health risk assessment services to public and private sector clients. Our technical staff offers extensive experience in environmental applications of toxicology, health risk assessment, geology/hydrogeology, chemical transport analysis, and applied chemistry and statistics. Our group has collectively completed more than 500 health risk assessment and toxicology projects throughout the United States and Europe. Our analyses have supported regulatory decisions for federal programs such as CERCLA, RCRA, FDA, TSCA, and for many state regulatory programs. Our team offers several key benefits to clients:
-
The expertise of Board-certified Toxicologists (DABTs), with over 30 years’ experience intoxicology and health risk assessment
-
The expertise of Dr. Paul Black, of Neptune and Company, the nation’s foremost environmental statistics consulting group, and James Van de Water, an experienced hydrogeologist specializing in fate/transport modeling
-
Extensive project experience with regulatory agencies in California, including Department ofToxics Substances Control (DTSC), Office of Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) and theRegional Water Quality Control Board, Los Angeles Region (LARWQCB)
-
A strong commitment to technical excellence and client interaction toward the goal of cost-effective project completion.
Our staff has extensive experience conducting human health and environmental risk assessments in support of numerous federal, state, and local regulatory programs. We have been recognized nationally for our roles as leaders in the ongoing development of risk assessment methodologies (including probabilistic risk assessment, physiologically based pharmacokinetic [PB-PK] exposure assessment, and low dose toxicity modeling) and have contributed numerous publications to the peer-reviewed literature. We are active in local and national chapters of the Society for Risk Analysis, Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry, and the Society of Toxicology. We have demonstrated, over the past 30 years, our commitment to the integration of toxicology and risk assessment disciplines into decision-making processes, including development and implementation of state environmental laws and regulations. For example, members of our staff were selected by the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection (NDEP) to establish for the agency a risk-based corrective action program, including development of risk assessment and risk management protocols for various NDEP programs. Our staff is currently providing technical training and third-party review services to the NDEP in the areas of risk assessment and toxicology. Members of our staff were selected by the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) to serve as technical reviewers for risk assessments submitted to their Voluntary Remediation and Superfund programs. In California, we have provided technical support services to the California Water Quality Control Board, Los Angeles Region (LARWQCB) and San Francisco Region (SFRWQCB) regarding the integration of health and environment risk assessment into site investigation/site closure programs as well as providing third party risk assessment review services. We have a highly successful track record for obtaining approval of risk assessments and site closures from the California EPA, including DTSC, OEHHA, LARWQCB, and local agencies as well as in most federal USEPA regions and nearly all 50 states.
